Ø What:The topic of this part is “Understand how a problem was solved”. The title of the reading text is "From Problems to Solutions". The text involves many new words. Teachers need to help students understand the new words and guide students to analyze and discuss the challenges and problems of cultural heritage protection in the process of building Aswan Dam, as well as the solutions and processes. The text consists of six paragraphs. The first paragraph raises the central question: Finding and keeping the right balance between progress and cultural heritage protection is a big challenge. The second paragraph illustrates the central problem by an example, which tells that the Egyptian government wanted to build a dam on the Nile river to control floods, produce electricity and irrigate land, but a lot of precious cultural heritage such as Abu Simbel Temple would be damaged. After failing to solve the problem, the government turned to the United Nations for help, which opened the prelude of this huge cultural relics protection project. The third and the fourth paragraphs describe the process of problem solving. After more than 20 years of joint efforts of many governments, environmental experts and scientists finally moved the temple and other cultural heritage to a safe place. The last two paragraphs are about the results and the significance of the project.
